Christine M. Whitworth, M.D. Co-Medical Director Dr.
Whitworth is a native Tennessean. She attended medical school at the
University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences, and she
completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the
University of Louisville. At the Baylor College of Medicine in
Houston, Texas, she completed her subspecialty training in
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility prior to moving to
Nashville in 1991 to join Dr. Hill at the Nashville Fertility
Center. Along with her three associates, Dr. Whitworth was recently
selected by her physician peers as one of the best physicians in
Nashville. She is Board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology
and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
While in medical school, Dr. Whitworth was invited to join
the Alpha Omega medical honor society. During her residency in
Louisville, she received the "Golden Hands" award for the best
technical surgeon in the residency program. In Houston she spent one
year in a special Reproductive Surgery Fellowship at Woman's
Hospital. This time was devoted to achieving expertise in operative
laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, tubal reanastomosis and open surgeries
for endometriosis, leiomyomata and pelvic adhesions. During her
fellowship at Baylor, Dr. Whitworth developed proficiency in
assisted reproductive techniques including in vitro fertilization
(IVF), GIFT and ZIFT procedures and conducted laboratory research in
endometriosis. During three years of fellowship in Houston, Dr.
Whitworth taught many courses to physicians on the use of the CO2,
YAG and Argon beam lasers that are used in laparoscopic treatment of
endometriosis and pelvic adhesions.
In her experience as co-director of the Nashville
Fertility center IVF programs, Dr. Whitworth believes she has
discovered the most rewarding aspect of her specialty, "Each couple,
each individual, is unique. The exciting challenge in our work is
being able to apply these advanced technologies in ways that
recognize the particular needs of each patient."
