Conceiving with unexplained infertility to have a healthy baby

In March of 2019, Lindsay met with a friend who had fertility issues. Her friend became pregnant after three rounds of IUI at our Tennessee fertility clinic. Lindsay and her husband then decided to make an appointment.
After discovering they had unexplained infertility, looking at all the options and considering how long they’d been trying to conceive, they decided to move forward with one of the most-effective options, in vitro fertilization (IVF). Their doctor, Abby Eblen MD, agreed and they began the process.
“We had great success,” Lindsay says. “And the fertility injections weren’t a big deal. There was no pain.”
They had 21 eggs retrieved, 14 fertilized and 6 that were chromosomally normal. There were four male embryos and two females.
Embryo selection for help conceiving with unexplained infertility
“Before the embryo transfer, they gave us the choice of selecting the gender, but because I wanted a boy and my husband wanted a girl, we let the doctor decide,” Lindsay says. “Before they took me into the operating room, we were told they were transferring a male embryo. I was really excited.”
The transfer was successful, and their healthy baby boy, Bear James, was born on July 7, 2020.
Words of support for other women and men

Lindsay also encourages other women and men who are curious about conceiving with unexplained infertility to go straight to IVF whenever possible. “I know so many people that have spent years and significant amounts of money trying different fertility treatments before finally going to IVF. If they would have done IVF first, they would have already had a baby and spent half the money.”
