Fertility Surgery Makes Motherhood Possible

16 Years in the Making

Linda and Sam never thought fertility surgery would be in their future

Linda and Sam’s story starts when they met as high-school sweethearts in 2001. “We met when I was 15. We knew we were soulmates, and we ended up getting married about nine years later,” Linda recalls. The couple started trying for a baby as soon as they got married, but they weren’t having any luck. Although she tried not to worry, Linda knew something was wrong.

When the couple did finally conceive, it ended in a miscarriage. Linda decided it was time to find out what was wrong, so she made an appointment with her obgyn. After a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), she learned that both of her Fallopian tubes were blocked. “That’s when my doctor referred me to Dr. Whitworth at Nashville Fertility Center for fertility surgery and treatment,” Linda says.

The path to pregnancy begins with fertility surgery

Linda went to Christine Whitworth MD for laparoscopic surgery to remove her damaged Fallopian tubes. “After seeing how damaged they were, we decided that removing my tubes would give us the best chance to get pregnant,” Linda explains.

After recovering from the minimally invasive fertility surgery, Linda and Sam underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) at Nashville Fertility Center. The couple started with a fresh embryo transfer, but it failed. However, the couple wasn’t ready to give up.

After one more frozen embryo transfer, the couple received a positive pregnancy test. On Nov. 9, 2017, Linda and Sam welcomed a healthy baby boy named Ace.

Advice for other hopeful parents

It can be difficult to deal with infertility, but Linda has some advice. “Talk to your doctor if you feel like something is wrong. I wouldn’t have found out that my tubes were blocked, and I wouldn’t have my son, if I didn’t speak up.”

Although the idea of undergoing fertility treatment can be intimidating, Linda says that it is worth it. “Over the years, we went through a lot of pain and heartbreak, but I don’t think about any of it now that I have my baby. All of the time, money and effort was so worth it.”

As for her thoughts on Nashville Fertility Center, Linda says, “I would highly recommend the practice. I had a great experience with Dr. Whitworth and the whole team. I never felt like a number because they were attentive to my physical and emotional needs. Dr. Whitworth is great, she’s like an angel, and she will forever be a part of our story.”
