Recently NFC was highlighted in a story by The Tennessean about infertility and the lack of insurance coverage for this medical condition. The Affordable Care Act passed in the spring of 2010 does not address infertility treatment coverage. However, states have the option to mandate that insurance plans provided in their state have some type of infertility treatment coverage. These are so-called ‘mandate states’. Many insurance plans cover diagnostic testing to determine the cause of infertility, but few plans drawn outside the ‘mandate states’ include coverage for the treatment of infertility.
States like Tennessee are deciding how to implement healthcare reform and the issue of infertility treatment coverage will hopefully be considered. According to the Tennessean, Gov. Bill Haslam did not specify that infertility treatments should be covered.
While we do not have any control over what states or insurance companies decide to cover in their policies, we will always work to provide you with the most cost effective fertility treatment possible.
