Learn the signs you may have endometriosis and find out what to do about it

Learn the signs you may have endometriosis and find out what to do about itOur Tennessee fertility center can help you understand the signs you may have endometriosis. Endometriosis is an often-uncomfortable fertility issue involving tissue that typically lines the inside of the uterus growing outside of it. The tissue can affect the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and it can sometimes cause cysts to form. Endometriosis often requires fertility treatments and can affect a woman’s ability to become pregnant.

Signs you may have endometriosis

As many health conditions can cause symptoms similar to endometriosis, it’s important to understand the specific signs you may have endometriosis.

  • Strong menstrual cramps
  • Heavy menstrual flow
  • Lower back aches
  • Painful urination or bowel movements
  • Discomfort during intercourse
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Nausea

If you’re experiencing some or all of these symptoms, we recommend you see a specialist at our Tennessee fertility center. The specialist will likely determine whether you have endometriosis by reviewing your medical history and information pertaining to your menstrual cycles. They will also likely recommend evaluations, such as an ultrasound, bloodwork and a minimally invasive surgery.

Following an endometriosis diagnosis, the fertility specialist will work with you to develop an effective treatment plan.

Learn how our clinic treats endometriosis

If you are ready to build a family, there are various fertility treatments you can utilize to bypass endometriosis. A doctor at our clinic will help you determine which treatments are right for you.

Laparoscopy. Laparoscopy allows the doctor to remove endometrial implants and scar tissue that might affect ovulation, fallopian tube access and embryo implantation. You might need this minimally invasive procedure multiple times throughout your reproductive years.

IUI, or intrauterine insemination. This endometriosis treatment consists of you monitoring your ovulation and coming to the clinic the day after ovulation likely occurs. The doctor then uses a catheter to insert sperm into your uterus.

IVF, or in vitro fertilization. IVF is one of the most effective fertility treatments. It involves you taking ovulation induction medications while receiving frequent monitoring at our clinic. When enough eggs mature, the doctor retrieves them during a short procedure. Next, the doctor sends your eggs to the lab where an embryologist fertilizes them with sperm. The doctor then transfers one of the resulting embryos into your uterus.

If you are not trying to have a baby, the doctor can help you treat your endometriosis symptoms with birth control.

Our Tennessee fertility center is by your side from your endometriosis diagnosis to the completion of your fertility treatments. With our support you can move past the discomfort and fertility challenges of endometriosis. Contact us for more information about signs you may have endometriosis.
