Mother’s Day 2023

Helpful tips for navigating Mother’s Day 2023 when you’re struggling to conceive

Helpful tips for navigating Mother’s Day 2023 when you’re struggling to conceiveTo help prepare women for Mother’s Day 2023, we’re offering tips for coping and insight into how our Tennessee fertility doctors offer quality care. Navigating fertility challenges can be incredibly stressful, and especially so on a day that celebrates motherhood. However, there are certain things you can do to minimize the emotional turmoil you might experience on this holiday.

Tips for nurturing your well-being on Mother’s Day 2023

While some women feel that they should hide their emotions and just “power through” Mother’s Day 2023, we believe women have every right to honor their needs on this often difficult day.

Our experienced team has several recommendations for taking care of your emotional health on Mother’s Day.

Turn down social invitations. If you get an invitation to a Mother’s Day gathering you believe will be triggering, you have every right to politely decline.

Walk away from triggering conversations. When chatting with someone on Mother’s Day, or any day, give yourself permission to gracefully exit the conversation if it veers into mothering or fertility topics that make you uncomfortable.

Spend alone time processing your emotions. Not surprisingly, Mother’s Day can bring up a slew of emotions, such as sadness and anger. Because suppressing emotions can cause them to grow, it can be helpful to set aside some private time to cry, journal, nap or do anything else that helps you move through your emotions.

Treat yourself. You deserve to turn this holiday into an opportunity to treat yourself to a feel-good activity, such as a massage, movie marathon or a trip to the ice cream store.

In addition to supporting your mental and emotional health needs on Mother’s Day 2023, it can also be a great time to commit to having a consult with a fertility specialist. Meeting with one of our Tennessee fertility doctors might just be the life-changing step that leads to the right infertility diagnosis.

Learn more about how we can help you get the right infertility diagnosis

An important aspect of quality fertility care is undergoing tests that can help you receive the right infertility diagnosis. These tests provide valuable information about your uterine health, ovarian reserve, reproductive hormones and other factors affecting your fertility.

After reviewing your medical history, one of our Tennessee fertility doctors will suggest the fertility tests they recommend.

Blood test. Bloodwork allows fertility specialists to assess levels of reproductive hormones, such as anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), estradiol, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone.

Transvaginal ultrasound. Our doctors use ultrasounds to evaluate a woman’s ovaries and  detect potential uterine abnormalities.

Sperm analysis. If you’re trying to conceive with a male partner, he will provide a semen sample that allows specialists to determine if issues with his sperm are contributing to your struggle to conceive.

In some situations, you might require more extensive testing, such as a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or a surgical evaluation of infertility.

After the doctor reviews the results from your fertility tests, he or she will share the results with you, so that you can feel confident that you finally have the right infertility diagnosis. Your physician will then work with you to develop an effective treatment plan to help you bypass barriers to motherhood.
